Kickboxing Classes in Trussville: Real Technique, Real Sweat
Most kickboxing classes in Trussville and around the Birmingham metro are aerobics with a punching bag in the room. You sweat, you burn some calories, and after a year you still cannot throw a correct hook. Kickfit is not that.
Kickfit is our kickboxing fitness class in Trussville, built around real striking technique instead of choreography. You learn actual punches, kicks, knees, and combinations on bags and pads while getting a full body workout. There is no sparring and no contact with other people, it is open to all levels, and your first class is free.
What makes Kickfit different from a cardio kickboxing class?
The technique is real, because the people teaching it are real martial artists.
In a typical fitness kickboxing class, the movements are designed to look like striking and produce a heart rate. In Kickfit, the combinations we teach are the same ones our fighters throw, taught with the same attention to stance, hip rotation, guard, and balance. The workout comes from doing them correctly and repeatedly, not from the instructor inventing motion to fill a song.
The practical difference shows up around month two. You start to notice that your power comes from the ground and not your arm, that you can hold a guard while you are tired, and that you actually know what you are doing. That knowledge does not evaporate when you stop coming, the way a fitness routine does.
Do I need experience to start?
No, and most people in the room started with none.
Every combination gets taught before you throw it. The coach walks the room correcting technique while you work, which is the part that almost never happens in a big box class. You choose your own power and pace, so a first timer and someone who has been coming for two years can stand at bags next to each other and both get exactly what they need out of the hour.
You also will not be singled out, and you will not have to keep up with anyone. The only expectation is that you try the technique the way it was shown.
Will I have to fight anyone?
Never. Kickfit is bags and pads only. No sparring, no contact with another person, nobody hitting you.
This is the question that keeps a lot of adults from ever trying a martial arts gym, so we want it answered plainly. You can train Kickfit for years and never take a shot. If you eventually decide you want the contact side, real sparring lives in our adult martial arts and MMA program, and plenty of people cross over once the striking starts to feel natural. But that is a door you open, not one we push you through.
What does a Kickfit class actually feel like?
Honestly, hard. Striking with real technique is one of the most demanding things you can do with your body, because it is total body work under a clock.
- A warm up that gets your shoulders, hips, and ankles ready to strike.
- Technique instruction, usually building a combination piece by piece.
- Rounds on the bags and pads, working that combination with correction as you go.
- Conditioning to finish, using movements that support striking instead of random burpees.
You will be out of breath in the first round and you will be sore in your hips and your core the next day. You will also sleep better than you have in months. There is something about a heavy bag that resolves a bad day in a way a treadmill never has.
Who teaches it?
The same coaches who run our competitive programs. Owner Maxwell Tucker is a 5th degree black belt in Karate and has been teaching since he was 13. Head instructor Kimberly Ramkishun is a 2nd degree black belt in Karate and a blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Jamar Fields carries a 2-0 amateur MMA record. You can see the full instructor team and their backgrounds.
That is the whole point. You are getting fitness class convenience with martial arts gym instruction, from a school that holds a 5.0 rating across 158 Google reviews and trains more than 260 active members.
